There is an urgent need to find solutions to tackle the climate crisis because economies, the environment and people depend on it. The growing movement is to get people to understand what can be done and what the responsibility of the various stakeholder groups will be. One group that is often overlooked is the immigrant and minority population who are disproportionately affected but do not know what the underlying causes are or what they can do about it. Unique to Miami, a large portion of local residents fall into this category and constitute the frontline communities, those experiencing the “first and worst” consequences of climate change.

Dream in Green has worked with local schools for 15 years and provides students with hands-on training in a variety of sustainability topics throughout the school year, disseminating the lessons through teacher training. This opportunity for representation on the international stage will connect more than 130 schools currently enrolled in the organization’s Green Schools Challenge program. Students and teachers will have direct access to this annual event attended by world leaders, representatives of nations, eminent scientists and business leaders to discuss the state of global progress against climate change.

Generation Climate has led delegations of educators, youth and community leaders to the UNFCCC Conference of Parties since COP15 in 2009. Generation Climate’s Window on the COP program elevates the critical role that an engaged, educated society and actively plays in promoting the just and equitable action needed to mitigate and adapt to climate change on a global scale. The delegation is also a member of the official US ACE Coalition, a group of organizations, institutions, and experts working to accelerate just, effective, and whole-of-society action toward a climate-safe future.
