PVAS Recruits AmeriCorps Volunteers for Environmental Education, Land Management | Newspaper

CHARLES TOWN – The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is recruiting for two full-time 6-month positions at AmeriCorps starting in March 2022 and ending in late August. One will focus on the implementation of PVAS educational programs for youth, and the other will focus on conservation initiatives and land management in the four PVAS nature reserves.

The environmental education post will provide nature experiences to youth in Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan counties in West Virginia. Audiences can include children ages 2-18 from schools, library programs, preschool programs, summer day camps, home school groups, nature birthday parties and d ‘other youth agencies as well as family groups. The goal of our programs is to foster an understanding of nature and our connection to it. We strive to help children develop a deep and meaningful connection to the natural world that will lead to the desire to take action to conserve and protect it.

The AmeriCorps Land Management and Conservation member will assist the Land and Conservation Manager in maintaining the four PVAS nature reserves in the East Panhandle and participate in the organization’s various conservation projects, such as as the promotion of pollinators, monarch butterflies, native plants and other initiatives. This is a great hands-on experience for those interested in habitat conservation, ecology and management.
